How It Works

Improve reading comprehension and reading skills with our phonics lessons and teaching tools.

Research shows that too many students leave 3rd grade without basic reading skills. Without these skills, students will struggle with the more complex reading they are required to do in grades 4 through 12.

In most schools, basic skills (like phonemic awareness, decoding, and phonics knowledge) aren’t measured or taught to adolescents in grades 4 through 12. Students with these missing (or weak) skills often look like they have comprehension and fluency (and vocabulary) difficulties.

Improving these basic skills can have an immediate and long lasting positive effect on fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Our approach provides the tools to identify, group, teach and monitor the progress of students who need decoding help.

Our approach provides the tools to prevent decoding problems in grades 2-3 with Phonics Boost or remediate this problem in grades 4-12 with Phonics Boost and Phonics Blitz.

The focus of Phonics Suite lessons is decoding and reading accuracy. Teachers use Phonics Suite to improve students’ phonemic awareness and to fill the gaps in phonics knowledge, which leads to improved accuracy when reading. Improved accuracy often leads to better comprehension and fluency.

Phonics Blitz and Boost are for students who have mild, moderate, or significant decoding issues. Helping the students in these groups can have a dramatic effect on overall academic performance. When schools successfully fix this pervasive problem, it can lead to overall school improvement and improved classroom behavior, graduation rates, and performance on high stakes tests.
