Overview

The National Reading Panel (2001) found that children learn to read better when the following five components are explicitly taught during reading instruction:

  1. Phonemic Awareness
  2. Phonics
  3. Fluency
  4. Vocabulary
  5. Comprehension

Really Great Reading’s focus is on teaching students the first two components:  phonics and phonemic awareness. Our lessons and workshops emphasize direct, explicit, structured, systematic, multi-sensory instruction. Each of these terms is explained in glossary.
