Phonics Blitz and Phonics Boost Workshop
Phonics Blitz and Phonics Boost lessons are most successful when the teachers administering the lessons are well trained in phonics and phonemic awareness. When teachers are well trained, students receive the greatest benefit from the lessons. With this in mind, RGR offers a comprehensive 1½-day workshop to provide teachers with the knowledge and practice needed to implement the lessons effectively.
The workshop provides:
- An understanding of why students struggle with reading
- An overview of the components of reading and reading instruction
- Phonemic awareness and how to teach it, including practicing correct phoneme articulation
- An overview of phonics and basic phonics principles and patterns
- Review of specific phonics concepts taught in Phonics Blitz and Phonics Boost
- An overview of Phonics Blitz and Phonics Boost lesson procedures
- Ways to deliver lessons effectively, including practice teaching lessons.
The Phonics Blitz and Boost workshop often combines with the Diagnostic Decoding Workshop to make a full 2-day workshop, and ensures that teachers understand how to properly identify, group, and teach students with decoding and phonemic awareness deficits.

I wanted to keep you updated on our progress with Blitz implementation. I was at Kendrick Lakes last week for their data team discussion and student progress reporting. In just three weeks of Blitz instruction, their 4th grade groups have doubled their WCPM and increased their accuracy significantly with similar trends in the other grade levels!
